First Look at Iconic DC Universe Location in James Gunn’s Superman Reboot

New set photos from James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film reveal a glimpse of a significant location from the Man of Steel’s lore. As Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios embark on the DC Universe’s Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters,” the franchise reboot led by Gunn and Peter Safran is in full swing. With David Corenswet cast as Superman, the film is currently in the midst of principal photography, gearing up for its release in about a year.

Photos shared by DCU_Updates on X (formerly Twitter) showcase the Kent Farm, featuring a house painted in red, yellow, and black. Operating under the working title “Genesis,” the production is scheduled for filming on June 6. A casting call from Central Casting indicates a need for infants and young boys, hinting at potential flashback scenes depicting a young Clark Kent. It remains uncertain which cast members will be involved in this segment of the shoot.

A Fresh Take on Kent Farm

The recent images offer a peek at the Kent Farm, though only from one perspective, suggesting more will be revealed in future footage. Compared to previous live-action depictions, this version appears smaller, lacking a second floor. More comprehensive views of the Kent house may emerge in the coming days as filming progresses.

Notably absent in the photos is the iconic barn, traditionally situated near the Kent house. Despite its omission, movie magic and CGI can seamlessly integrate the barn into the setting, maintaining the authenticity of the Kent Farm. It’s possible that interior scenes of the barn will be filmed at a different location to complement the exterior shots.

Flashbacks in a Non-Origin Superman Story

Although Gunn has clarified that this Superman film won’t be an origin story, flashbacks are expected to play a role. If the set is indeed used for flashback scenes, audiences might witness pivotal moments from Clark Kent’s childhood in Smallville. How extensively the Kent Farm will feature in the narrative remains to be seen, but it promises to add depth to Clark’s backstory without retreading the origin tale.

As anticipation builds, fans eagerly await more glimpses of the Kent Farm and other iconic locations in this fresh take on Superman’s story.
