‘White Collar’ Reboot in Development, Promises to Honor Willie Garson

With “White Collar” gaining renewed popularity long after its original run, fans can look forward to fresh episodes on the horizon. At Variety’s TV Fest on Thursday, series creator Jeff Eastin announced that a reboot of the beloved police procedural is currently being developed.

“We’re moving forward with a reboot. I’m writing the script,” Eastin revealed during a panel discussion with stars Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay, and Tiffany Thiessen. Bomer enthusiastically confirmed his participation by stating, “I’m in!” while DeKay and Thiessen also expressed their commitment.

DeKay praised the new script, saying, “It’s a fantastic script that addresses all the lingering questions for long-time fans and also serves as a great introduction for new viewers. It’s a perfect balance.”

The reboot will also pay tribute to Willie Garson, who portrayed Mozzie and passed away in 2021. “It honors Willie in a profound way,” DeKay shared. Thiessen added, “Jeff captured the suspense, thrill, characters, and love perfectly. I was moved to tears for all the right reasons after reading it.”

While details on the plot remain under wraps, Eastin hinted at the intentional open-ended conclusion of the original series, suggesting it was always meant to pave the way for future stories. The rise of procedural dramas on streaming platforms, particularly Netflix, has rekindled interest in “White Collar.”

“Thanks to the success of shows like ‘Suits’ on streaming services, more people are discovering ‘White Collar’ on Netflix,” Eastin said. “This renewed interest made the idea of a reboot a reality.”

Though it’s not yet confirmed, the reboot is expected to find its home on Hulu. Originally airing on USA Network and produced by Fox Television Studios, the series’ rights now belong to Disney, making Hulu a likely candidate. DeKay expressed optimism about the reboot’s potential streaming platform, stating, “The hope is that it will be on a major streamer.”

Fans can anticipate a revival that stays true to the original’s spirit while exploring new narratives and paying homage to its cherished characters.
