Christina Ricci Teases ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3: “Prepare for More Shocks and Brutality”

Christina Ricci has shared insights about the intense finale of Showtime’s Yellowjackets and hinted at the even more thrilling content awaiting fans in the upcoming season three.

Ricci’s character, Misty, made a shocking move in the season two finale, accidentally killing Natalie, portrayed by Juliette Lewis, as the Yellowjackets continue their fight for survival post-plane crash. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Ricci revealed that filming for several episodes of the new season, expected to premiere in early 2025, has already commenced in Canada.

“This season will be even more shocking and surprising than before,” Ricci said. “Expect it to be brutal, but with a good dose of comedy. It’s going to be quintessentially Yellowjackets.”

The cast is already feeling the absence of Lewis, whom Ricci describes as being like a sister. “We bonded deeply and spent so much time together. Losing her character was really sad. Even now, after filming a couple of episodes, it feels different without Juliette.”

Ricci admitted she was taken aback by the dramatic twist in the finale. However, she believes her character, Misty, can come to terms with it. “I think she can forgive herself. We’ve seen her do it before with her actions in the wilderness. She’s a survivor and has endured so much already.”

Despite her role, Ricci remains largely in the dark about future storylines, as the show’s creators, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, prefer to keep the cast uninformed. “We find out about the plot twists a bit later than people might expect. It’s part of how this show works, and I don’t want to press them for details because it could put them in an awkward position.”

Ricci, a veteran film star, finds the uncertainty challenging. “In movies, you have the entire story upfront, which helps in building the character. It’s a bit unsettling to learn new character details suddenly. But every project has its own challenges, and this is one of them.”

In addition to Yellowjackets, Ricci has been busy with other projects. She was the brain behind the chaotic events in Netflix’s Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega. Despite having played Wednesday Addams herself 32 years ago, Ricci feels no ownership over the role. “Jenna’s portrayal is fantastic and very different from mine. I played the role when I was 12, and now at 44, I see it as a character many have embodied, similar to how many actors have played Juliet in Shakespeare.”

Ricci’s latest venture involves a five-minute film for the launch of the mobile game Squadbusters, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Ken Jeong, and Auli’i Cravalho. Although not a gamer herself, Ricci was drawn to the project by the opportunity to work with Will Arnett. “I’ve been a huge fan of Will Arnett for years. Working with him, along with Ken, Chris, and Auli’i, was incredibly exciting. They are all so talented and hilarious.”

With a mix of anticipation and curiosity, fans are eagerly awaiting the new season of Yellowjackets to see what shocking and brutal twists lie ahead.
