M. Night Shyamalan’s newest thriller, “Trap,” is set to hit theaters slightly earlier than initially planned. Warner Bros. announced on Thursday that the film, starring Josh Hartnett, will now premiere on August 2nd, a week ahead of its previously scheduled release date. This shift positions “Trap” to open against Neon’s thriller “Cuckoo” featuring Hunter Schafer, Columbia Pictures’ “Harold and the Purple Crayon” starring Zachary Levi, among other films.
In addition to the new release date for “Trap,” Warner Bros. revealed several other upcoming releases: an untitled Atomic Monster/Blumhouse event film slated for April 17, 2026; an untitled Warner Bros. event film for March 26, 2027; an untitled WPBA/Locksmith film set for July 23, 2027; and an untitled Warner Bros. Family sequel scheduled for December 17, 2027.
“Trap” follows a father and daughter who attend a pop concert, only to find themselves embroiled in a dark and disturbing event. A recent trailer hints at a sinister secret held by Hartnett’s character, suggesting he might not be the hero he appears to be — but with Shyamalan’s reputation for twists, anything is possible.
The film, written and directed by Shyamalan, features a cast that includes Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill. Producers are Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock, and Shyamalan himself, with Steven Schneider serving as executive producer.
